Building a 1996 Dual Pentium Pro NT Workstation PC!
Assembling a mid 90s Windows NT workstation computer! Specifically NT 4.0 with two Intel Pentium Pro 200MHz processors, maxed-out RAM, and a Matrox MGA Millennium video card. All in an awesome metal case on wheels. Testing, dusting, building, troubleshooting, games, CAD rendering and more! Most of which I've never done so let's dive in and make some mistakes.

The 1984 MacPhone for Apple Macintosh Computers
Просмотров 227 тыс.21 день назад
Unboxing and setting up this 80s retro oddity on LGR! The Intermatrix Mac Phone is an early peripheral for the original Apple Mac computer from 1984. For $200 back then you got a telephone to stick on the side of your system, a dialer program... and that's about it! It's become a rather rare collectible, so let's install and test this one 40 years later. ● Become an LGR RUclips member to see vi...

Streets of SimCity 27 Years Later: An LGR Retrospective
Просмотров 267 тыс.Месяц назад
It's been ages since I first covered this so it's high time for a revisit! Streets of SimCity was a flawed jankfest of a game, yet I've always had a fondness for it. Exploring your SimCity 2000 cities in 3D was fantastic in 1997 and even with all the bugs and crashing I played it a ton. So let's revisit it decades later, now with the excellent SimStreetsX patch! ● Join LGR RUclips memberships t...
The 1992 Mouse Yoke! Convert a mouse into a flight yoke, oddly
Просмотров 226 тыс.Месяц назад
Checking out the odd Mouse Yoke from 1992! Colorado Spectrum sold several flight simulator adjacent devices in the 90s but this is the weird one of the bunch. Clamp the base to a desk, strap in a computer mouse, slide in the shaft, and enjoy a realistic aircraft yoke! Possibly, in theory, sort of! A bizarre thing that is prime LGR Oddware indeed. ● LGR links: ruclips.net/channel/UCLx053rWZxCiYW...

Revisiting this CS-630 from the year 2000! The Intel Pocket PC Camera is a glorified webcam with batteries when it comes down to it. I bought a 25-year-old printer & regret EVERYTHING
Просмотров 422 тыс.2 месяца назад
I've made a huge mistake and ignored the first rule of vintage computing: NEVER buy an old inkjet printer, especially a 90s Canon. Yet here we are with a BJC-2000 color printer from 1999... in an ideal world this was gonna be a fun romp into Windows 95 Bubble Jet printing, plus a test of the IS-22 scanner cartridge. In reality though, everything about this thing sucks and is awful and that shou...

Revisiting UT2004 two decades later! 11:38 Back in the early 2000s, a motherboard manufacturer called AOpen had a feature called 'Dr. Voice' that would tell you the status of your motherboard by voice. This isn't an AOpen motherboard in the video, but it reminds me of it. AOpen's voice bios motherboards were usually released exclusively in Japan, also with versions in regional dialects such as Kanto and Kansai. The most unique of these was the "AX4BS PRO まいえんじぇる"(My angel), which featured the voice of popular Japanese talent Tamao Sato (さとう珠緒). It's definitely a cool feature.

It's funny how kids will buy something out of excitement with no ability to use it. My first PC hardware purchase was a SB16/CD drive/Speakers boxset. Unfortunately, the PC I had at the time was an ancient 286. I had to wait a few months until Christmas when my parents bought me my first PC that I could put the soundcard and CD drive in. A Pentium 120Mhz. NFS was one of the first game demos I tried. Taken from one of the many Computer Shopper magazines I'd collected. I was in awe at these "photorealistic" graphics. I guess, compared to my 286 it really was a huge leap in visuals.

While I did play 2000 before 3000U, I wasn't really old enough to appreciate the former so all my experience was really formed with 3000U! To this day it's still often what I think about when I reminisce about playing on the computer as a kid (and Commander Keen) and really, nothing else has quite scratched that same itch. 4 was pretty disappointing given my fond memories of 3kU, and CityScapes was... alright I guess. I agree with everything you've said, really! The OST still pops up in my head now and then, along with some of the little jokes from the ticker. While I never did figure out how to make an efficient city and really just relied on the money trick, it's probably one of the games I look back on the most fondly. I still have that glorious wirebound 3kU manual, though the original disc has been long lost.

That's why I wanted to thank you for sharing these memories and photos. Makes me be able to live vicariously through you. The photos of passed pets was heartwarming. Made me tear up quite a bit. Wish I had taken more photos. I only have a few photos from when I was a child. In the last 20+ years I can't remember any photos that were taken of me or by me. Read an article about that a while back that mentioned that people who truly care about themselves and the people around them take many photos and the people that don't rarely do. Bit sad, but true.

Even now, after Fallout 4 has been re-released with a lot of the dead Creation Club mods included, the game still has numerous problems that have never been fixed, and many that can't be fixed because they're a result of the game's base design. As with all Bethesda games, it needs to be modded since the devs refuse to fix all the gamebreaking problems and bugs the game has thanks to their laziness. The biggest problem is that the game tells you it's been 200 years, but the entire world looks and feels like it's been a few weeks at most since the bombs fell. Even after a few years, any structure that sits abandoned will be taken over by nature, after a decade it'll be lost in trees and plants, so having massive structures stand completely intact without as much as a crack in the wall after 200 years is not realistic. And despite of how long it's supposedly been, you can still mountains of useful junk all over the place, despite the world supposedly having gangs that scavenge the ruins for anything useful (again, they're mentioned, but you never run into them). The next major problem is that nothing you do really matters. At most your choices affect which NPCs live or die, but the overall state of the world and the main story remains unaffected by any of your actions. And the story is indeed very weak. Towards the end it becomes very clear that Bethesda didn't know how to tie up all the lose ends, and with all the content that was planned and never completed it's obvious that they pretty much gave up on the game along the way.
